What I learned in therapy IS...

FROM THE VAULT: 8/3/19 1 in the morning

"You can't make you're feel happy. There's no way you can tell yourself to be happy, and magically be happy. The way you FEEL is connected by your ACTIONS and THOUGHTS. Interestingly enough, your thoughts on a situation are directly correlated to your belief about yourself."

"When you have the flu, you get real tired, because it's your body's way of trying to make you better. Depression is your body's way of trying to get you to slow down and process what's going on."

"in relationships you have a shield and a sword. If someone comes running at you with a sword, you can either use your shield (and block out everything they are saying) or stab them back (yell and be hateful)."

Kerri recently has taught me this new trick, where she asked me to describe myself. I said,

"I'm not important and I'm different"

By the end of our discussion about why I felt that way, we turned them around to, "I'm valuable (not valued, because that means it's dependent on others) and I'm just the right kind of different. "

Nonviolent communication
"Is this relationship important to me?"
"Is this person capable of hearing me?"
1. Facts
2. Feel "I feel..."
3. Value/need "why this is important"
4. "I need... Would you be willing to... Could you help me...?"
